Habit of a Georgian in 1768

by Thomas Jefferys

"Habit of a Georgian in 1768," sometimes referred to as "Georgien" in French, is an interesting example of 18th-century costume history. The engraving was created in London by Thomas Jefferys, who served as the Geographer to King George III, and published in A Collection of the Dresses of Different Nations, Antient and Modern (1757–1772).

Though the engraving was published by Jefferys, its artistic manner is influenced by the ethnographic works of French artist Jean-Baptiste Le Prince, who specialized in depicting peoples of the Russian Empire and Caucasus.
