Rosenberg's Rose - Rosa Rosenbergiana

by Pierre-Joseph Redouté

Bringing the romance of the royal history of France in the 19th century straight to your home is now possible through this stunning botanical print of Rosenberg’s Rose (Rosa Rosenbergiana). The artwork is plate 111 in his masterwork, Les Roses (which came out from 1817-1824), featuring a highly detailed depiction of the multiple layers of blooms adorned with delicate buds that have been stopped in their process of unfolding.

The world’s famous “Raphael of Flowers,” Redouté was an official court painter of Marie Antoinette and the Empress Josephine Bonaparte. Known for painting his artworks directly from living subjects collected in the world-famous gardens of the Chateau de Malmaison, he is noted for having captured each tiny detail, from the petals’ translucent qualities to the unique thorns.
