Pera Spadona Vermina - Pear

by Giorgio Gallesio

In the botanical art print below, the rare ancient summer pear, the Pera Spadona Vermina, is beautifully illustrated through the lens of one of the great Italian botanists in history, Giorgio Gallesio. The print comes from the author’s book "Pomona Italiana", published from 1817 to 1839.

The illustration brilliantly depicts the elongated sword shape of the pear and its light green skin turning slightly pink from the warmth of the sun along with its distinctive white pulp. The history of many years can be seen in the details of every stroke and shade of the watercolors, accurately restored to keep the rich colors and farm-like style of the original hand-colored engraving.

Such prints can add a piece of botanical history to your classic kitchen or dining room wall.
