Fico Fetifero - Fig

by Giorgio Gallesio

Add a touch of 19th century Italian culture to your home with this wonderful botanical print of the Fico Fetifero (and Fico dell'Osso). This image first appeared in Pisa, Italy during the period 1817-1839 and is taken from Giorgio Gallesio’s magnificent masterpiece, Pomona Italiana, which is known throughout the world as the finest example of fruit illustration ever produced.

Gallesio was an innovative Italian botanist who made careful study of plants in Italy that would be referred to many years later by none other than Charles Darwin. The plate in question is one showing branches filled with large green leaves and perfect figs, along with a small bird.
