This impressive 18th-century antiquity represents the strength and culture of the native Kamchadal (Itelmen) people from the Far East Russia. This remarkable engraving has been engraved by Thomas Jefferys in 1768 for his famous world’s costume compendium and depicts winter garments including fur-lined parkas, parkas made from skins, as well as necessary footwear needed for the Siberian freezing conditions.

With its unique bilingual inscription (English/French – Kamtchadal dans son Habit d’Hiver), this engraving is an outstanding example of the Age of Enlightenment passion for discoveries, geographic studies, and ethnology of Arctic peoples.
