Habit of a Moor of Arabia

by Thomas Jefferys

This beautiful 18th century copperplate engraving is taken from the famed costume series by Thomas Jefferys. This illustration provides an ethnographic study of the "Moor of Arabia" and provides a study of the particularities of the costume in Arabia during the mid 1700s.

This drawing demonstrates the unique attire, headgear, and armaments worn by the people of the Arabian peninsula during the time period when they were studied by the European enlightenment thinkers. Not only is this an important piece of costume history but it is also a wonderful artistic piece as well.
