The magnificent copperplate engraving created by Thomas Jefferys depicts the elegance of the "Habit of the Duke of Burgundy" at the dawn of the 18th century. It reflects the height of French fashion of that time period during the late rule of King Louis XIV when there was a shift in style from Baroque fashion to early Enlightenment style.

The figure of the Duke is dressed in the formal justacorps, which is an outer coat that reaches the knee length with pleated skirts, wide cuffs, and decorative embroidery. Also featured in this costume are the long cravat falling over, periwig (powdered wig), and a tricorn hat, which makes this figure look very elegant.
