Calliope

Enjoy a beautiful engraving of Calliope, which is one of the Muses. This artwork was created by the famous Geographer to King George III, who is known for his cartography work. It depicts the “Fair Voiced” Muse of epic poetry, and it does it magnificently.

As one can notice, there are some elements of cartography present here. The Muse is wearing the typical robes, and she has that distinctive table and stylus. This engraving perfectly shows how art and cartography were mixed during that period. If you are interested in the Georgian age and its art, this is one of the best examples of English engraving ever made.
