Yellow Red-Poll Wood-Warbler

by John James Audubon

Bringing together natural history with timeless Americana, here is a beautiful replication of the "Yellow Red-Poll Wood-Warbler" ("Plate 145") by John James Audubon. Commonly known today as the Palm Warbler (Setophaga palmarum), this spectacular depiction highlights Audubon's extraordinary ability to combine precise scientific detail with vivid and lively composition.

The composition features three birds – two striking adult males and one juvenile – interacting through white flowering branches. Audubon shows off his remarkable skill as an artist in this composition since he did not depict these birds in static position, but rather posed the central bird in dynamic downward-swooping stance which is typical for this species with its tail-wagging behavior.

Originally engraved by Robert Havell Jr. in London between 1827 and 1838, our reproduction recreates the bright ochres, chestnut caps, and olive tones of the original hand-colored aquatints.
