Streng Oldsmobile Sign in Buffalo, New York

by John Margolies

This photograph taken in 1985 from John Margolies' much acclaimed Roadside America series, presents us with the impressive design of Streng Oldsmobile sign in Buffalo, New York. The photo highlights the use of rocket design, which is a tribute to the Rocket V8 engines used by Oldsmobiles, alongside a cursive font on a marble-like green background.

John Margolies devoted his lifetime to document roadside Americana, saving signs of car dealerships, fonts of neon lights and other commercial vernacular that has now been standardized.
