Habit of a Lady of Macedonia in 1568

In this rare copperplate engraving, you can observe one of the most elegant attires worn by the people of the Balkan peninsula in the last decades of the Renaissance era. This particular engraving was done by Thomas Jefferys in connection with his collection entitled "A Collection of the Dresses of Different Nations." In this plate, one could see the dress of a Macedonian Noblewoman who would have been wearing it during 1568.

The print is highly valued for its detailed illustration of the layered costumes used in the past, particularly in terms of their elaborate design and use of thick fabrics. The headdress and gown of the noblewoman shown in the illustration reflect the blend of cultures (Byzantine and Ottoman) in the costumes of this period.
