Turnip Rose - Rosa Rapa

by Pierre-Joseph Redouté

Add some historical flair to your home with this beautiful replication of the "Turnip Rose" (Rosa Rapa) by the renowned Pierre-Joseph Redouté.

Redouté was famously known as "The Raphael of Flowers," and he served as the court painter of Marie Antoinette and Joséphine. This particular illustration, which was first published from 1817 to 1824, is from his masterpiece folio titled "Les Roses." It depicts the graceful pink flower petals and intricately detailed green leaves of the classic Rosier Turneps. The stipple engraving technique used by Redouté, which was mastered from live specimens rather than dried herbarium specimens, makes this print unique with its watercolor-like quality and depth.
