Scarlet Colored Pitcairnia

By Pierre-Joseph Redouté

Experience the romance of imperial times through Josephine Empress’ personal gardens with this remarkable botanical illustration of Scarlet Colored Pitcairnia (Pitcairnie faux-ananas) designed by Pierre-Joseph Redouté. An outstanding 19th-century creation, the botanical drawing showcases the majestic beauty of the tropical plant.

With Redouté being known as the “Raphael of Flowers,” one can expect nothing less than an intricate depiction of the plant with its arched foliage of grass and a strikingly beautiful red flower spike created in stipple engraving style.
