Habit of King Henry VIII in 1520

by Thomas Jefferys

The copper engraving below from the year 1757 gives an amazing glimpse into how King Henry VIII would have looked in 1520. This copper plate is found in Thomas Jefferys’ highly influential publication entitled, A Collection of the Dresses of Different Nations. King Henry VIII wears the lavish “Habit” which was popular during the early part of the 16th century. This clothing includes thick furs, ornate embroidering, and the unmistakable large shoulder line of the Renaissance English court.
