The impressive copperplate engraving "Habit of a Woman in Siberia" made in 1768 is printed by Thomas Jefferys, the well-known cartographer and geographer. Such prints allow us to see through the ethnography of the mid-eighteenth century. They represent the way of life, appearance, and mannerisms of people in one of the most severe climate regions.Jefferys’ work was very helpful for mapping exotic cultures for the Western European audience before the invention of cameras. The image presented here helps us understand better the dress of the inhabitants of this region and their way of life.
