Enterprise in Seaside Heights, New Jersey

by John Margolies

Take a step back in time into the glory days of the Jersey Shore through this incredible 1978 photograph of the famous “Enterprise” ride in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. Taken by the one and only architect and photographer, John Margolies, this piece is a fine example of color road photography in America.

In true fashion, this photograph was taken in glorious, direct sunlight in front of an unrelentingly clear blue sky, deliberately devoid of any people so that all the focus is on the geometrical shape and graphic signage of the ride. With the graphic shapes of the huge spinning wheel and the bold typography of the “Enterprise” sign, this photograph is a great capsule of 1970s boardwalk life. The archival print in this piece retains the vibrant colors of the original slide photograph.
