Spanish Jacinth

By Pierre-Joseph Redouté

Transport yourself to the majestic elegance of 19th century French imperial gardens with this stunning fine art print of “Scilla Patula” (Spanish Jacinth / Italian Bluebell), beautifully reprinted from the original work by renowned artist Pierre-Joseph Redouté.

Redouté originally sketched this image onto vellum between 1802 and 1816 for his monumental folio of works entitled Les Liliacées, which was commissioned directly by Empress Joséphine Bonaparte herself. Redouté, who was fondly referred to as "the Raphael of Flowers," devoted years to his painstakingly detailed paintings of the beautiful exotic plants found in Joséphine’s renowned Malmaison gardens.

This particular image depicts the lovely nodding bells of the Spanish Jacinth, reproduced with meticulous attention to scientific detail and stunning visual appeal in a beautiful combination of serene tones of cerulean blue, subtle violet, and vibrant greens against a pristine vintage background.
