Aloe-Leaved Epidendrum

By Pierre-Joseph Redouté

Enhance your living spaces with a dash of Napoleonic history and everlasting grace, by adding this remarkable reproduction of the Aloe-Leaved Epidendrum (Cymbidium Aloifolium / Epidendrum Aloifolium), created by Pierre-Joseph Redouté, the renowned botanical artist of all times.

This majestic botanical work of art was commissioned for none other than the exquisite gardens of Empress Joséphine Bonaparte at Malmaison; and it comes straight from the historic folio titled, “Les Liliacées” by Pierre-Joseph Redouté, which took the artist almost a decade, from 1802 till 1816, to complete. Referred to as “The Raphael of Flowers,” the unmatched stipple engraving technique used by Redouté in his botanical illustrations brings out the scientific accuracy and artistic grace in equal measure.

The featured illustration displays the distinctive structural leaves of the plant, resembling the leaves of aloe plants, surrounding a graceful stem bearing beautiful boat-shaped blossoms of orchids.
