Raven

by John James Audubon

Recreate the wild and elegant beauty of early American wilderness with the famous Raven from John James Audubon’s (Plate 101). Originally created in 1831 for the historic publication “The Birds of America” by Robert Havell, this stunning illustration goes beyond mere wildlife art.

This illustration by Audubon is a perfect rendition of the obsidian-black mystery that is the raven – a mythical bird known for its great intelligence. Against the beautiful, soft shades of green and gold of the shell-bark hickory branch, Audubon creates his stunning illustration through the amazing detail in the dark feathers of the raven which have beautiful tones of blue and purple.
