The Donut Hole in La Puente, California

by John Margolies

Create a visual history of Southern California’s roadside attractions in your own home with this print by photographer John Margolies. This striking photograph captures The Donut Hole in La Puente, California, in typical Margolies style, with its enormous glazed chocolate donut arch surrounding a vehicle that is ordering from inside. Adding to its retro appeal with its tagline “IT’S THE QUALITY” printed on the enormous donut, this photo is the very epitome of mid-century eccentric design and American car culture.

For many decades, Margolies has been documenting the unique buildings of America, converting the commercial culture of our nation into fine art photography. Printed using high-quality archival inks on museum-quality matte paper, this print brings attention to every detail of the photograph, including the famous red-and-white striped stanchions bordering the driveway and the blue sky of California overhead.
