Before all the crowds come out and fill up the wooden sidewalks, Atlantic City is the place of golden morning light. The scene is captured by the keen, observant lens of John Margolies – the legendary architect and photographer, whose photographs portray a unique and tranquil insight into the Jersey Shore’s mid-century past.

With the vivid yellow sign of the famous Planters Peanut Shoppe, the Mayfair Hotel’s entrance, awnings, and early-morning strollers, this image is a tribute to the great classic architecture of the resort town and roadside America. Margolies dedicated many years of his life to the depiction of American vernacular architecture in his photographs.
