In 1883, the captain of an American merchant ship ventures into an expedition to recover a great number of valuable diamonds from a sunken Dutch ship. He faces a multitude of strange creatures, pirates, and an erupting volcano. The story is based on the 1883 eruption of the island of Krakatoa.
