Fiore Maschio di Carobbo - Carob Flower

by Giorgio Gallesio

The botanical illustration, Fiore Maschio di Carobbo or Carob Flower, is a superb piece drawn by the famous Italian botanist Giorgio Gallesio (1772-1839). The remarkable illustration is drawn from one of his outstanding works produced during the early 19th century, that is Pomona Italiana (1817-1839), the first book about the fruit trees in Italy.

The illustration captures the intricate balance between the scientific aspects of nature and art in order to emphasize the reproductive beauty of the carob tree (Ceratonia Siliqua).
