This is an engraved 18th-century plate portraying an aristocratic Ottoman officer with the caption “Habit of a Captain of a Hundred Janissaries in 1568”. The historical engraving has been produced during the time period 1757-1772 within the famous set “A Collection of the Dresses of Different Nations”.

This historic engraving features an illustration of the distinctive military uniform worn by the captain of the Janissaries, the elite infantrymen’s division of the Ottoman Empire, thus portraying the military tradition and ethnic dress style prevalent during the 16th century.
