Lincoln's Pinewood Finch

by John James Audubon

This stunning hand-colored engraving portrays Plate 193 from the famous masterpiece of John James Audubon called "The Birds of America." The title of the artwork is "Lincoln Finch (Melospiza Lincolnii)" and it commemorates the discovery of the bird that Audubon made during his exhausting journey to Labrador, Canada, in 1833, which was named after his traveling companion, Thomas Lincoln.

Representing the characteristic dramatic composition of Audubon's works, this print beautifully balances the simplicity of the design of the bird against the colorful flora indigenous to the area.
