Boardwalk A.M. in Seaside Heights, New Jersey

by John Margolies

Boardwalk A.M. in Seaside Heights, New Jersey captures the quiet early morning atmosphere of the Jersey Shore before the crowds of people come.

Taken by the architectural historian John Margolies in 1978, the picture features the unique mid-century buildings on the wooden boardwalk, namely the Aztec Motel characterized by its distinctive A-shaped frame, the bright sign saying "Aztec Pizza & Beer," and long shadows that fall onto the boardwalk beyond the benches and old garbage cans.
